I understand that families are concerned about other families attending our schools who do not live in our residency lines. It is my understanding that Mark Schultz has been diligently working on this issue. The district is concerned about it and seems to be making progress. I heard this Randolph family actually had to leave the school until the brought in a livonia lease. The children were actually not allowed to attend school until the parents had proper documentation. However, it is board policy that if a student is in our district during D-day they may remain in our district until the end of the school year. Perhaps this policy she be reviewed.
Steve, Kudos on this blog. What a great opportunity to open the lines of communication between the BOE and the stakeholders. I'm hoping that you are aware of the controversy rising around the district's math choice of Everyday Math as the sole curriculum for k-4. There are many reviews of the negative aspects of this program at livonianeighbors.com. There are accounts from mathematicians as to the program's missing content and testimony from parents/teachers from around this country that have struggled with the EM program. Please, take a look. I think that the administration needs to begin to answer some of the tough questions that parent's are raisng about this program. Parent's are tired of hearing that the program is "fun and exciting" and that they only reason they are uncomfortable with it is that is isn't the math they were taught. That couldn't be farther from the truth. The reasons that parent's are so uncomfortable are at livonianeighbors.com, 50 pages of them.
